Considering the bizarre situation of COVID pandemic and lockdown, with the support from the Lalitpur Municipality, MRG, and PAWANKA Fund, NIDWAN operated Tele-counseling and peer support for more than 500 People with Disabilities in the Lalitpur Municipality. Four certified peer counsellors i.e. Ms. Dev Kala Parajuli, Ms. Anita Ghimire, Ms. Sonika Dahal, and Mr. Kesh Bahadur Gurung provided the service along with a sign language interpreter and assistant for deaf persons. During the counselling, information, details of the service receivers, experiences, challenges, difficulties, and problems faced during the pandemic, seeking medical services, issues faced after the onset of COVID-19, and possible recommendations were documented on the counselling form. Despite the sensitive and risky situation, the information provided by the state and various organizations were not accessible to People with Disabilities so with the support received, NIDWAN drafted and finalized the jingle and dialogue, which contained the COVID-19 related information and awareness on disability and enabling environment for the People with Disabilities. The jingle and dialogue were broadcasted on the local FM station for a month and were translated into Newari Language as well.
