With the collective slogan of “Together We Can, Together We Will” NIDWAN organized its 2nd Inter-Valley Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Tournament targeting “Women with Disabilities” with a cultural program on 18th March 2023. The tournament aimed to promote the affirmative action on ‘Disability Inclusive Sport and empowering Women With Disabilities for Social Transformation.’
A total of 5 women wheelchair basketball teams from Kathmandu Valley competed in the tournament which were; Women Wheelchair Basketball Association (WWBA), Nepal Spinal Cord Injury Sports Association (NSCISA), Boudhisatya In Action (BIA), National Indigenous Disabled Women Association Nepal (NIDWAN). The program was organized by NIDWAN with the collective support of all the teams, the coaches, volunteers, guests, supporters and other participants who made this tournament quite successful.
The program started from 8 am to 5 pm. All the players and volunteers and some participants had gathered at the venue (Boudha International School) by 7:30 am and had a hearty breakfast before the tournament began. The tournament started falteringly with none of the teams scoring at all, but soon all the teams started picking up their pace and scored their points. Women Wheelchair Basketball Association (WWBA) won the 1st place with a cash prize of NRs. 25,0000, Nepal Spinal Cord Injury Sports Association (NSCISA) won the 2nd place with a cash prize of NRs.20,000,and finally Boudhisatya In Action (BIA) got third place with a cash prize of NRs. 15,000. Aishworya Kumari Kumal (Jersey No. 5, NSCISA) was congratulated for being the highest scorer in the tournament and the main event of the tournament, the “MVP” was Yami Jhyakri Magar from WWBA.
After the tournament, we had a short refreshing musical and dance side event which was prepared by players from Team NIDWAN, Bijaya Sakela Sili Rai, and Krishna Maya Sunuwar.
