National Indigenous Disabled Women Association – Nepal (NIDWAN), established in 2015, is a non-for-profit making nongovernmental organization founded and run by young indigenous women and girls with disabilities with a focus on ensuring, protecting, and promoting the rights of indigenous women and girls with disabilities. NIDWAN has programs on gender, disability, and indigenous rights including health, climate change, employment, inclusive humanitarian action, policy advocacy, research and documentation, and publication. NIDWAN works in the local, national, regional, and global arena to sensitize and engage in policy intervention.

In order to deliver effectively these programs, NIDWAN is looking for a qualified human resource for the following position based in Kathmandu valley –

Position: National Program Coordinator (NPC)

Reports To: Executive Head

Supervise To: Monitoring, Evaluation and Documentation Officer, Advocacy and Communication Officer, Program Volunteers and Interns

Work Station: NIDWAN Central Office (Kusunti, Lalitpur with projects field visits and international travel as per requirement)

Number of positions required: 1 (one)

Purpose of the position: The major purpose of recruiting this position is to provide overall leadership, management and strategic vision to the implementation of NIDWAN’s various programs and projects that meet their specified targets and deliverables on time and within budget. This is a senior level position who takes the overall responsibilities of the organizational programs and projects, manage, execute and supervise accordingly. The position is also responsible to ensure gender, disability and indigeneity are well ensured in the NIDWAN’s entire work through the use of intersectional framework.

 Roles and Responsibilities

 Strategy and Vision

  • Provide overall strategic direction, leadership, technical and operational management of the organization to ensure the timely and qualitative delivery of program objectives.
  • Work strategically with the NIDWAN team, partners, and, constituencies to scale up cross-movement collaboration within and beyond constituencies to amplify the voices of indigenous women and girls with disabilities.
  • Recognize opportunities for innovative action and create an environment where alternative viewpoints are welcomed.
  • Set direction by prioritizing and organizing actions & resources to achieve objectives and contribute to country-wide strategy development.
  • Develop and organize activities to leverage existing and secure new resources and support for programs.

 Program Development, Implementation and Management

  • Develop new programs to support the strategic direction of the organization and create a long-term effective engagement planning with changes to ensure organization goals are achieved.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with NIDWAN’s team and its like-minded allies to operate/execute the overall projects and manage a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
  • Track NIDWAN’s overall goals are met and plan advocacy and activities maintained with safety, quality, and team member performance.
  • Take lead to organize programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization and facilitate the overall execution of the program/project.
  • Engage in proposal writing and fundraising opportunities to scale up the organizational activities.
  • Facilitate training, workshops, and seminars in an inclusive, accessible and safe environment.
  • Develop and finalize various reports ensuring their quality within the given timeframe.
  • Develop and analyze budget to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement and produce timely reporting, quality delivery of events throughout its life cycle, and analyze program risks
  • Conduct and attend national and global meetings with the right holders, and stakeholders to make communication easy and take decisions for promoting the goal and vision of the organization.
  • Implement, manage, and develop a budget, with an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate capacity building interventions (sensitization sessions, trainings) for key duty-bearers, CSOs, and the NIDWAN’s provincial networks
  • Participate in team meetings, the development of strategic and operational work plans and other internal processes as required
  • Prepare reports for the relevant donors as stipulated by grant agreements in consultation
  • Prepare and submit event reports outlining achievements for the relevant reporting period to the Executive Head of the Organization for review and usage.

Coordination, Collaboration and Networking

  • Collaborate with concerned stakeholders to reduce violence and discrimination against indigenous women and men, girls and boys, and other indigenous persons with disabilities from LGBTIQ+ communities by creating inclusive and affirming spaces and promoting acceptance in both private and public spheres.
  • Coordinate capacity building interventions (sensitization sessions, trainings) for key duty-bearers, CSOs, and the NIDWAN’s provincial networks
  • Participate in committees, technical working groups and other fora to influence human rights issues, programmes, policies
  • Effectively collaborate with NIDWAN’s executive board, secretariat, provincial networks, program teams to enable and facilitate indigenous women and girls with disabilities positioning across its core areas of focus and increase engagement of stakeholders through the strategic use of diverse media platforms
  • Liaise with local, provincial and federal level government officials, local NGOs and civil society organizations, local leaders and other stakeholders to ensure support for and acceptance of NIDWAN’s programs.
  • Coordinate with NIDWAN Executive Committee, Secretariat and Management teams to leverage supports and acquire technical guidance in a regular basis.

Team Management

  • Create a work atmosphere conducive to professional growth and development of excellent personnel at all levels, proactively seeking out capacity building opportunities and engaging in the career development of program cum finance staff.
  • Identify technical skills gaps of all staff to provide necessary support through training, workshops, and materials as per need.
  • Contribute to team-building efforts and ensure the integration of all team members into relevant decision-making processes.
  • Conduct capacity building of field and implementing consortium staff as NIDWAN lead organization
  • Provide technical support to the project and partner staff in reviewing project learning and understanding best practices, producing notes for a file on the same.
  • Assist the program team to organize program related events and event reports, in coordination with Secretariat and Executive Head.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to consortium members’ staff on the implementation of the activities
  • Support development of cross-team coordination mechanisms to ensure effective collaboration and integration across key program areas and functions.
  • Implement and ensure all team members, including partners, are effectively using the performance planning and management system, establishing performance expectations and regularly providing constructive feedback.

Required qualification, skills and expertise

  • Minimum bachelor degree with 5-7 years of experience or master degree with 3-5 years in Development Study, Gender Study, Disability Study, Indigeneity Study or in similar fields.
  • Strong network with various organizations of persons with disabilities, governmental, nongovernmental, civil society, human rights actors, and national and international development actors
  • Demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and ability to maintain positive relationships and composure.
  • Maintain high ethical standards and treat people with respect and dignity.
  • Exhibit an awareness of their strengths and development needs
  • Professional experience in leading, managing, and implementing organizational multiple programs and projects in different themes and sectors.
  • Demonstrated background and contacts with donor agencies and development actors.
  • Updated knowledge of key issues in disability, gender, indigeneity and development.
  • Ability to live and function at a high capacity within a collaborative organizational structure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate, public speaking and strategic planning skills, experience in a cross-cultural environment with stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with strong attention to details.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and Nepali languages.
